ALMOND COOKIES (JAN HAGEL) 
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg, separated
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp.. cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. water
1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts or sliced almonds

Cream butter. Add sugar, then egg yolk; cream well. Sift dry ingredients. Add gradually to first mixture, add vanilla. Place mixture on a greased 15 x 10 inch baking sheet. Press into even layer with fingers. Mix egg white and water, brush unto cookie mixture. Sprinkle with nuts or almonds. Bake at 300 degrees for 1/2 hour. Cut in squares while slightly warm. Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
