CANADIAN RED CROSS CAKE 
1 c. water
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Boil for 5 minutes. When cool, add 2 cups sifted flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda. Add 2 beaten eggs. No baking instruction given.
