WHOLE WHEAT BREAD 
4 c. warm water
4 tbsp. sugar
4 tbsp. shortening or lard
4 tsp. salt
4 handful whole wheat flour
4 handfuls bran flakes
1 lg. cake household yeast

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Put flour in large pan or bowl. Make hole in flour and add other ingredients. Knead with hands until soft and add white flour to stiffen. Let rise and work down and let rise again. Make into loaves and let rise in pan and bake at 375-400 degrees, until brown, about 1 hour.
