CHOCOLATE MERINGUE BARS 
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
3 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. coconut
1 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 c. nuts
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking powder

Beat shortening, 1/2 cup each white and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla. Add baking powder, soda, salt and flour to creamed mixture. Pat into greased cake pan 9x13 inch.

Sprinkle top with chocolate chips, coconut, 1 teaspoon brown sugar and nuts. Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually add 1 cup brown sugar and beat until stiff. Spread over dough. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
