FRESH APPLE PASTRY 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. butter
1 egg yolk
Milk
1 c. crushed corn flakes
8 c. (2 qts.) peeled, sliced tart apples
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white, stiffly beaten

Cut butter into flour; add salt. Beat yolk with fork in a cup. Add milk to make 2/3 cup. Stir milk into flour mixture; mix with fork until it holds together. Divide into 2 parts. Roll flat and fit into 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inch rectangle greased baking dish. Place lightly to form bottom crust. Sprinkle bottom crust with corn flakes. Place apples, sugar, ginger, and cinnamon over crust. Roll out remaining dough; place on top. Brush with beaten egg white. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes until golden brown.

Combine 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon water. Ice on cooled pastry.
