DANISH PASTRY APPLE BARS
PASTRY:

Super to use as pie crust too. Remember to use cool ingredients.

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg yolk
Milk (see below)

FILLING:

1 c. Corn Flakes
8 to 10 tart apples, pared & slice to make 8 c.
3/4 to 1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white

Combine flour and salt, cut in shortening. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup, add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid; mix well. Stir into flour and shortening mixture. On floured surface, roll half the dough into a 17 x 12 inch rectangle. Fit into and up sides of 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inch baking pan. Sprinkle bottom with Corn Flakes. Pour sliced apples on the top of the flakes. Cover apples with sugar and cinnamon (mix together first). Roll out second crust. Put it on the top of apples. Using water, slip the edges together (water seals the edges). Poke holes in the top crust 1/2 to 1 inch long. Beat egg white until frothy. Use bubbles to cover the top crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes.
