WEST VIRGINIA CENTENNIAL BISCUITS | |
1/2 c. sugar 1 pt. warm water 1 cake yeast 1 1/2 qts. flour (6 c.) 1/2 c. dry milk 1 tbsp. salt 1 1/2 tbsp. baking powder 1 c. shortening plus 1 tbsp. Add sugar and yeast to warm water. Dissolve and let set 10 minutes. Sift all dry ingredients together, add shortening, cut in until like coarse crumbs. Add liquid to dry mixture. Mix only to combine. Roll out 1/2 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place in pan and let rise 30 to 45 minutes in a warm place. Bake in a 400 degree oven 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 34 to 36 biscuits. |
