ALABAMA BISCUITS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 tbsp. sugar
1 cake yeast
1/4 c. warm water
6 tbsp. shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Sift dry ingredients together. Dissolve yeast in water. Add yeast, shortening and buttermilk to dry ingredients; mix well. Turn dough out on floured board; knead 20 minutes, roll out 1 1/4" thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Butter top of each biscuit. Stack in two's. Let rise 2 hours. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 15 to 20 minutes.
