HILMA'S PEPPARKAKOR (MOLASSES
GINGER SNAPS)
 
1 c. molasses
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1 egg
3 tbsp. vinegar
2 level tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
4 level tsp. baking soda

Put molasses and shortening in saucepan on hot stove and let boil up, being careful not to let boil over. Remove from fire and let cool; now put in mixing bowl sugar and egg; beat thoroughly, add vinegar and soda and beat again; then add salt and spice and mix. Add the molasses mixture to this and beat, then add flour. Let stand overnight in cool place. In the morning roll out on a floured board, very thin, cut in shapes, and bake in a quick oven until golden brown. This makes about 6 dozen cookies.
