14 DAY PICKLE 
1 gal. whole cucumbers
1 c. salt
1/2 c. alum
2 tbsp. pickling spices
4 lb. sugar

Day 1: Pack cucumbers in jar and cover with boiling water and salt. Day 2: Drain and cover with boiling water to which alum has been added. Day 3: Drain and cover with boiling water. Day 4: Drain and cover with boiling vinegar and spices. Let this stand 9 days. Day 12: Drain off vinegar and slice cucumbers and put layer of sugar in glass gallon jar. Let stand 2 days or until sugar melts. Day 14: Seal in jars.
