30 DAY PICKLES 
2 tbsp. alum
2 tbsp. salt
1 c. pickling spices
4 c. vinegar
Water
Enough cucumbers to fill 1 gallon jar
4 c. sugar

Put as many cucumbers as possible into a glass gallon jar. Add all above ingredients except sugar. Add enough water to fill jar to top. Screw on lid tightly and put in a corner somewhere and leave for 30 days. Mark your calendar.

At the end of 30 days, remove cucumbers and rinse well. Throw away brine and wash jar. Cut up washed cucumbers and put back into jar. Add 4 cups sugar and shake and shake and shake until sugar dissolves and syrup forms. Keep refrigerated.
