NO-KNEAD FRENCH BREAD | |
4 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. sugar 1 pkg. yeast, or 1 tbsp. 1 c. water lukewarm Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle yeast into 1/2 cup water. Add yeast mixture to flour-salt-sugar mixture. Add remaining 1/2 cup water a little at a time (you will need most of it). Mix with hands and shape into a ball. Put into a greased bowl (roll it around once). Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and put in a warm place to rise until double, about 2 hours. When double, halve dough, slap each half to release air then shape each half and put in a small greased casserole dish. Cover and let rise again until double. Then butter top and bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour (has a very crispy crust). |
