GRANDMA'S DATE NUT BREAD 
2 c. boiling water
1 lb. pitted dates
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. nut meats

Pour boiling water over dates and set aside. Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs. Combine flour, soda and baking powder. Add flour mixture to creamed ingredients. Stir in pitted date mixture. Add nut meats. Pour into 2 bread pans and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
