1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 c. Steen's syrup
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. pecans

Mix sugar, butter and eggs. Cream well. Put soda in syrup. Add to cream mixture. Add water and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients, add to mixture. Bake in greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
