1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs (well beaten)

Cream shortening and brown sugar together and then add eggs, beaten. 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Mix all ingredients together.

FILLING:

2 1/2 c. pitted dates
1 c. white sugar
1 c. water
1 c. coarsely ground nuts

Cook dates, sugar and water together about 10 minutes or until thick, then add nuts.

Divide dough into 3 parts. Roll out dough and spread filling on top. Roll up jelly roll fashion and freeze. Then slice and bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes on greased cookie sheet. Approximately 12 dozen.
