SHOOFLY PIE (WET BOTTOM) | |
CRUMBS: 3 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter PIE CRUST: 2 c. flour 2/3 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt Scant 1/3 c. water LIQUID: 1 c. dark Karo (or Turkey brand syrup) 1 egg 2 c. light brown sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 2 c. very hot water 1/2 tsp. salt PIE CRUST: Cut shortening into combined flour and salt, 1/3 cup at a time. Sprinkle water over it and stir hard with table knife until dough rounds up into ball. Roll out half at a time on floured surface and fit into 2 (9") pie pans. Flute edge. CRUMBS: Cut butter into combined flour and sugar (or rub all together until uniform). LIQUID: Combine all ingredients listed and mix well. Pour liquid into crust lined pans, dividing equally. Distribute crumbs over the liquid in each pan and bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes. |
