CUCUMBER PICKLES 
1 gal. cucumbers
1 c. lime (household lime)
2 gal. water

Dissolve lime in water. Pour over cucumbers. Let stand 24 hours. Rinse good. Drain. Cover with ice water. Let stand 3 hours. Drain. Mix 1 tablespoon salt, 8 cups sugar, 2 quarts vinegar, 1 tablespoon pickling spices, and 1 tablespoon celery seed. Pour over cucumbers. Let stand overnight. Simmer for 30 minutes. Pack into jars and seal while hot.
