GLAZED HAM | |
1 (8 to 10 lb) smoked ham 1 (1-inch) piece of fresh ginger, peeled 4 cloves garlic, peeled 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup agave syrup Bake ham following directions on packaging (this will vary according to the weight and type of ham). While the ham is in the oven, make the glaze. In a blender, combine all ingredients (except ham) and blend until smooth. Bring mixture to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Thirty minutes before the end of baking time, remove ham from oven and pour off any fat which has accumulated in the bottom of the pan. If the ham has a skin, remove skin and score the fat in a diamond or squares pattern (some hams have already had the skin removed so you may be able to skip this step. Brush ham generously with cooled glaze. At this point, you can decorate the ham with pineapple slices or chunks, if desired. Brush more glaze over all. Return to oven and cook for another 30 minutes or until glaze is shiny and very lightly browned. For an extra thick glaze, you can brush the ham with more glaze every 10 minutes while it bakes during the last 30 minutes. |
