SWEET DILL PICKLES | |
2 gallons cucumbers 1 pt. salt 1 gallon water Powdered alum SYRUP: 2 1/2 qts. vinegar 8 pts. sugar Scant handful mixed spices Sprigs of dill Put cucumbers in brine; let stand 1 week. Drain and cover with boiling water. Let stand 24 hours. Drain and cover again with boiling water, adding a tablespoon of powdered alum. Let stand 24 hours and drain. Slice longways. Boil syrup and pour over cucumbers while hot. Let stand 24 hours. Drain well. Pack into jars. Reheat syrup to boiling and cover pickles, adding sprig of dill. Seal. |
