SWEET DILL PICKLES | |
First solution: 1 pt. vinegar 3 pts. water 1 tsp. alum 1 tbsp. turmeric Second solution: 1 pt. vinegar 1 pt. water 4 c. sugar One gallon of cucumbers, cut in 1 inch pieces. Cover with 3/4 cup of salt and enough boiling water to cover; let set overnight. Drain and rinse well. Simmer cucumbers in First Solution about 20 minutes, then remove. Add sprig of dill to each jar then add cucumbers. Bring the Second solution to a boil and our over cucumbers. (You can prepared the Second solution while the pickles are simmering the 20 minutes.) Makes 6-8 pints. |
