2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 stick butter
1 c. water
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour and sugar and soda in a bowl; set aside. Bring to a boil shortening, butter, water and cocoa. Add to hot mixture the buttermilk, beaten eggs and vanilla. Mix in remaining ingredients, grease cookie sheet. Bake in large cookie sheet with sides or 2 (8"x8") pans.

ICING:

1 stick butter
4 tbsp. cocoa
6 tbsp. milk
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped walnuts

Bring to a boil the butter, cocoa and milk. Add sugar, vanilla and nuts. Spread while cake and icing are hot.
