2 3/4 c. sugar
2 sticks butter
3 eggs
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in eggs. Combine flour and baking powder, combine milk with vanilla. Add flour mixture and milk mixture alternately beating as you go. Mix until smooth. Do not overbeat. Bake in greased and floured tube (unless pan is teflon, which is only greased with Crisco.)

Bake for 1 hour or until done, cool on rack. Sprinkle top with confectioners' sugar while still warm or ice if you prefer.
