PLAIN CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. milk
2 eggs
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream the butter and add gradually the sugar, then the egg yolks well beaten. Add flour and milk alternately, beating well. Add baking powder, sifted with a little of the flour, stirring lightly. Fold in the whites of the eggs, which have been beaten to a stiff froth. Add the vanilla. Bake in layers about 25 minutes.
