1 c. softened butter
1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. finely chopped nuts (opt.)

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix butter, sugar and vanilla thoroughly. Work in flour, salt and nuts until dough holds together. Shape into 1" balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set, but not brown. While warm, roll in confectioners' sugar. Cool. Roll in sugar again. Makes about 4 dozen.
