ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
5 egg yolks, save whites
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour, plain
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 stick butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk

ICING:

1 box powdered sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1 (8 oz.) cream cheese

Cream egg yolks with sugar. Add other ingredients, little at a time. Mix real well. Then fold in egg whites, beaten. Then add 1 can coconut (3 1/2 ounce) and 1 cup chopped nuts. Bake at 325 degrees until brown. Makes 3 layers. Save some nuts and coconut to sprinkle on top.
