COCONUT CREAM PIE 
1 can coconut
1 c. sugar
2 c. milk
3 egg yolks
1 stick butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
5 tbsp. cornstarch
1 baked pie shell

Mix milk and eggs. Add sugar and vanilla and butter. Cook in double boiler until butter is melted; then mix cornstarch in water until it becomes a thick soup; then add it to the mixture. Cook until thick stirring continuously. When thickened, add coconut and pour into baked pie shell.

MERINGUE:

Egg whites
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 c. sugar

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar to a soft peak. Add sugar, beat to a stiff peak when the beater is raised. Bake at 400 degrees until brown.
