PEAR BREAD 
3/4 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. ripe pears (peeled and mashed)
2 tbsp. lemon juice
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. mace
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2 c. coarsely chopped pears

In large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, eggs, mashed pears, lemon juice and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Combine next six ingredients and stir into creamed mixture. Fold in chopped pears and nuts. Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans.

SUGAR TOPPING:

1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. soft butter

Mix well. Sprinkle topping on bread. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven about 60 minutes. Cool.
