3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
2 tbsp. cold water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix together shortening and brown sugar. Beat in egg. Add remaining ingredients. Form into 1" balls and roll in brown sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and press half a walnut in center. Bake at 375 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes.
