SOUTHERN SPICY GINGERBREAD 
2 eggs
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. dark molasses
3/4 c. Crisco
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Add beaten eggs to sugar, molasses and melted Crisco and stir. Add dry ingredients which have been sifted. Add boiling water and stir. Bake in greased pan at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Serve with lemon sauce.

LEMON SAUCE:

1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. water
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel
3 tbsp. lemon juice
1 pinch of salt

Combine sugar, cornstarch and water and cook on high until thick. Remove from heat and add rest of ingredients. Return to heat until thick again (about 2-3 minutes). Use while hot.
