BAKED APPLES 
4 lg. Rome, Cortland or Winesap apples
1/4 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Core apples, but do not cut all the way to the bottom. Place in shallow round baking dish. Fill centers with nuts. In bowl, mix butter with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; spoon into centers of apple. Pour 1/4 cup water into bottom of dish. Cover with foil. Bake 45 minutes. Uncover and baste apples with syrup. Bake 15 minutes longer. Serve with cream. Serves 4.
