GRAMMA MANNERS BREAD AND BUTTER
PICKLES
 
1/2 gallon apple cider vinegar
1 qt. water
5 lbs. sugar
3 tbsp. pickling spice
6 med. size onions
30 med. size pickling cucumbers

Slice cucumbers 1/8" thick, same with onions. In a 10 quart pan; put 2 layers cucumbers sprinkle with salt. Cover with 1 layer onions. Repeat until cucumbers and onions are gone. Let set for 1 hour. Add vinegar, water, sugar and spices. In 12 quart kettle, bring to boil. Stir as needed. Add cucumbers, bring to boiling for 5 minutes. Put in hot sterilized jars. Makes 10 qts.
