FENIKA 
1 c. shortening
1 c. oil
1 c. orange juice
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
2 lbs. walnuts

Mix shortening with oil, then add orange juice and heat well. Add soda and baking powder and beat. Then add sugar and beat. Add enough flour to be able to roll. Add walnut mixture in dough. Add about 1/2 teaspoon to center and roll.

WALNUT MIXTURE:

1 1/2 lbs. finely chopped walnuts
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

SYRUP FOR DIPPING BAKED FENIKA:

Juice of 1/2 lemon
3 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
4 tbsp. Karo syrup

Add remaining lemon to syrup. Boil for 12 minutes; dip fenika in syrup and sprinkle with walnut mixture.
