SCRUMPTIOUS COBBLER 
Serve with ice cream if you must, but this dessert is a winner all by itself!

1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1 1/2 c. sugar, divided
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 heaping tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. milk
4 c. (1 qt.) fruit (peaches, apricots, berries, fresh or frozen)

Melt butter in 2-quart baking dish. Combine dry ingredients, reserving 1/2 cup sugar. Stir into melted butter in baking dish. Add milk and stir again.

Bring fruit and remaining 1/2 cup sugar to boil. As soon as it boils, take off heat and pour over batter. Do not stir!

Bake at 400°F for 30 minutes.

Serves 6 to 8 (can be doubled).
