FESTIVE TORTE 
PIE SHELL:

3 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
14 finely crushed saltine crackers, abut 1 c.
1 tsp. baking powder

FILLING:

1 can cherry or strawberry pie filling

Fresh strawberries, mixed with pie glaze found in produce section
1 sm. size Cool Whip

Beat egg whites and vanilla until foamy. Gradually add the sugar, beating to stiff peaks. Mix together nuts, cracker crumbs and baking powder; fold into egg whites. Spread in a well greased 9" pie plate, building up sides. Bake in 300 degree oven about 40 minutes or until dry on outside; cool.

Line meringue shell with half of Cool Whip. Fill with fruit filling; top with remaining whipped cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
