1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
Egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/4 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Sift remaining ingredients and add to butter mixture. Chill dough. Cut out to 1/8 - 1/4 inch thick. Bake on ungreased sheet at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes.
