TOFFEE NUT BARS 
BOTTOM LAYER:

1/2 c. soft shortening or butter
1/2 c. brown sugar

Mix together thoroughly. Stir in 1 cup flour. Press and flatten with hand to cover bottom of ungreased 9"x13" pan. Bake 10 minutes in 350 degree oven. Beat 2 eggs well. Stir in 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 teaspoons flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 cup moist shredded coconut and 1 cup nuts. Return to oven and bake 25 minutes until topping is golden at 350 degrees. Cool and cut.
