BUTTERMILK BISCUITS | |
3 c. all purpose flour 1 tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. shortening 1 c. buttermilk Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In large bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and baking soda. With pastry blender or 2 knives cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Add buttermilk, mixing lightly with a fork until crumbs cling together. Gather dough into a ball; knead gently on floured surface a few times; roll dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into biscuits. Place on ungreased pan or baking sheet. Lightly press trimmings together and reroll to cut more biscuits. Bake biscuits 10 to 12 minutes or until brown. Makes about 14 biscuits. |
