AUNT BESSIE'S FRUIT CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter or Crisco
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
Dash of salt
2/3 c. buttermilk (2/3 c. milk plus 1 tsp. vinegar) or sour cream
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. nuts
1 rind of orange

TOPPING:

1/3 c. orange juice
1/2 c. sugar

Cream together sugar and butter. Add one egg at a time; beat. Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt together. Add buttermilk and flour mixture alternately to sugar-egg mixture. Grind raisins, nuts and orange rind through a food chopper. Add to mixture. Bake in a tube pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees.

TOPPING: Stir orange juice and sugar together and let stand while cake bakes. Pour over cake when done and still hot. Cake keeps well and makes a great cake for Christmas.
