ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
1 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
3 1/2 c. plain flour
1/2 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 box dates
1 can coconut
1 c. pecans
1 lb. orange slice candy

Cream Crisco. Add sugar and eggs and beat. Sift flour and salt. Mix soda in buttermilk. Add flour and milk as you beat. Chop nuts, candy, and dates. (Use 1 cup flour over nuts and fruit). Mix flour, nuts, fruit and candy before adding to batter. Bake at 275 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. Remove from oven and leave in pan. While hot, mix 1 small can orange juice and 2 cups sugar. Pour over cake in pan and let stand overnight.
