CUT - OUT COOKIES 
4 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tsp. milk
Colored sugar or frosting

Mix shortening with sugar; blend. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add flour and milk alternately, a little of each at a time. Refrigerate until easy to handle. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out half the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out cookies with a knife and homemade pattern or use cookie cutters. Bake 1/2 inch apart on greased cookie sheets for 9 minutes. Decorate as desired. Makes 5 dozen.
