SOUR CREAM MOLASSES SQUARES | |
1 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. light molasses 1 egg 3 1/2 c. sifted cake flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. each cinnamon and ginger 3/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. dairy sour cream Frosting Chopped nuts Cream butter and sugar until light. Beat in molasses and egg. Add sifted dry ingredients and sour cream and beat until smooth. Spread in greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) about 30 minutes. Cool in pan. Then spread with Frosting and sprinkle with nuts, pressing down into frosting. Cut in 35 squares. FROSTING: Frosting in heavy saucepan, mix 1 cup dairy sour cream, 2 cups sugar and dash salt. Put over high heat and cook rapidly, stirring vigorously, about 10 minutes, or until small amount of mixture forms a soft ball when dropped in very cold water. Remove from heat, add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and beat until smooth and creamy. Spread quickly. |
