DELICIOUS HAMBURGER BUNS
1 lg. cake household yeast, dissolve yeast in 4 tbsp. sugar
3 c. warm water
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
7 tbsp. Crisco

Put in a big pot. Let stand 10 minutes. Add to the big pot: 1/2 c. sugar 4 tsp. baking powder 3 more cups warm water

Beat with electric mixer. Now start adding flour, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Use beater until it just can't beat anymore. Then start using your hands and mix until it starts pulling away from pot. Put all this out on a floured board and knead until dough is smooth and elastic. I use a complete 5 lb. bag of flour when I make these.

Now grease 2 pots. Divide dough in half, put half in each pot, and turn greased side over. Cover and put in warm place and let rise until double, about 1 hour. Punch down and let rise again, for about 1 hour. Grease about 4 big cookie sheets. Cut pieces of dough and shape into balls; can use round cookie cutters also. Let rise in pans until they are the size of bun wanted, about 1 1/2 hours.

Bake at 375 degrees on top rack for 20 minutes. Brush with melted butter when they come out of the oven. Cool on racks. Makes about 50 buns.
