FAY'S DATE - NUT BARS 
1 1/4 c. enriched flour
2 tsp. double acting baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. dates, chopped
1 1/2 c. nuts, chopped (walnuts preferred)
3 lg. eggs
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tsp. vanilla

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add dates and nuts. Beat 3 eggs until foamy. Add the brown sugar gradually to egg mixture. Fold in dry ingredients, dates and nuts. Beat well and then spread mixture in well-greased 12 x 8 x 2 inch pan. Batter will be thick, so spread evenly with spatula. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Cut into 2 x 1 inch bars while warm and roll in confectioners sugar.
