ORANGE DATE BARS 
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
14 orange slice candy, cut up
1 c. water

1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda in 1/2 c. hot water

Mix and put half of the batter in 9x13 pan. Spread the date and orange filling over it. Add 1 tablespoon water to remaining batter and spread over filling. Bake 30 minutes, 350 degrees. Sprinkle with sugar while warm.
