HAMBURGER-RICE SKILLET | |
1 lb. ground beef 1 med. green pepper 1 c. med. grain rice 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce 1/2 tsp. basil 1 med. onion, chopped 1 clove garlic, minced 1 can tomatoes, cut up 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/2 c. shredded American cheese In skillet cook beef, onion, pepper and garlic until meat is browned; drain off fat. Add rice (if using minute rice hold until last). Cook, stirring constantly for 2 minutes. Add undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, basil, 1 1/2 cups water (with minute rice if using) and salt. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 45 to 50 minutes or until rice is tender; stir occasionally. Remove cover; stir, then sprinkle with cheese, when cheese melts, serve. Serves 6. |
