DATE FILLED ICE BOX COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream together sugar and Crisco. Add eggs and beat. Sift flour, soda and salt. Combine all ingredients. Mold into rolls and refrigerate. Slice, put a teaspoon of filling and cover with second slice. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

FILLING:

1 1/2 c. dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. nuts

Combine first 4 ingredients. Cook slowly - 5 minutes. Cool. Add nuts.
