SNICKERDOODLES 
1 c. soft shortening
2 3/4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix together thoroughly the shortening. Sift together and stir in flour and cream of tartar. Add balance of ingredients. Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of a walnut. Roll in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned but still soft. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 5 dozen 2 inch cookies.

NOTE: Cookies will puff up, then flatten out with crinkled tops.
