ESSIE'S COBBLER 
1/4 c. soft butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. self-rising flour, sifted
1/2 c. milk
1 (16 oz.) can sliced peaches
1/4 c. sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream butter and 1/2 cup of sugar together. Alternately add milk and flour. Beat until smooth. Pour into greased 9"x9" pan. Drain and save syrup from peaches. Lay peach slices on top of batter and sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar on top. Pour 1 cup of syrup (you may add water if needed to make 1 cup) over batter and peaches. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched.
