DATES & NUTS CAKE

1 c. dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water

Pour hot water over dates and soda and let cool.

4 tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. nuts
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 2/3 c. flour

Mix all together. Bake at 350 degrees until done.
