GINGERSNAP COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves
3/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. light molasses
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Combine sugar and eggs. Add molasses and shortening. Sift together dry ingredients. Combine 2 mixtures and mix well. Form into balls and roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes.

Yields 7 dozen (2-inch) cookies.
